Mountain View, California is a beautiful city in the San Francisco Bay Area. With a population of over 70,000, it is named for its views of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Mountain View is located at the heart of the Silicon Valley, an area known for being home to many well-known high tech companies such as Mozilla Firefox, Facebook, Google, and Symantec, but also many start-up tech companies such as Talenthouse, where Mike currently works.
There are plenty of hotels in the area with a wide range of prices and many of which are very close to the venue. Click here for a map of hotels nearby.
A general piece of advice: if you pick any hotel on or right off the street El Camino Real between the towns of Palo Alto and Sunnyvale, you’ll be good. You’ll be within 20 minutes of the venue, there are plenty of downtowns (Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Mountain View, and Sunnyvale) with delightful places to walk and eat, and it will be within very easy access of both the 101 Freeway and the 280 Freeway. Weather in the Bay Area can be fickle and bizarre. Please be sure to bring and wear layers; April can be cool and the wedding will be outside and at night. The ceremony and the reception will be on grass, so, ladies, we’d advise against spiky heels that could sink!
Things to do:
There’s a great farmer’s market at the Mountain View train station every Sunday. Local, fresh, and seasonal fruits and vegetables!
There are TONS of hiking trails in the mountains and walking paths in the city. Check in with us for recommendations!
How does sitting in a comfortable lazy boy in a dimly light room with soothing music while your feet, arms, legs, back, head, and hands are massaged for a full hour sound? How does paying $25 for it sound? Oh, yeah, it’s real. Happy Feet.
Want to fly a kite? There’s a kite flying spot in the same park as the wedding venue. When you enter the park, it will be on your right.
We are about 40 minutes from San Francisco and 30 minutes from San Jose, so if you’ve got the bug, check ’em out!
Our food recommendations:
Castro Street is the center of downtown Mountain View. It’s known for its extensive restaurant selection. Castro Street is also quite delightful for an evening stroll down the street, people watching, and is dotted with various bars (with great happy hours) and a fun gelato place! Below are some of our recommendations.
Amarin Thai Cuisine — Our favorite Thai restaurant.
Cantankerous Fish — Fancy pancy place, KILLER fish, good wines. Really really great happy hour!
Casa Lupe — Great Mexican food! Fabulous margaritas, too 😉
Country Gourmet — Breakfast and lunch. AMAZING french toast, waffles (especially with berries!) and omelettes. If you go, give us a call as we are literally within walking distance.
Frankie, Johnnie, and Luigi, too — A great Italian joint run by three brothers from New York. Open til 1am!
Hanabi Sushi — VERY good sushi and decently priced.
Izzy’s Brooklyn Bagels — Excellent bagels (even by Jasmine’s stringent standards), black and white cookies, challah, and it’s kosher (most of the workers speak Hebrew as well). This is in the next town over (Palo Alto), but if you’re jonsing, it’s worth it. If you just want a bagel, but don’t want to go as far, Bagel Street Cafe is pretty good too (not kosher).
The Kitchen Table — I haven’t eaten here (yet), but it is a certified glatt kosher restaurant in downtown. It’s gotten great reviews!
New Mongolian BBQ — A delicious, fast (and cheap) meal! All you can eat, your choice of meat, noodles, veggies, and create your own sauce. The chef puts it on a large metal skillet and cooks it up before your eyes. Also includes frozen yogurt machine and eggrolls.
Pizza My Heart — Originating from Santa Cruz, this is a very satisfying pizza-by-the-slice joint. Also great salads! You can order a full pie as well.
Shiva’s Restaurant — The best Indian food I’ve ever had. Wonderful service, delicious, savory curries and a variety of naans. Exquisite!
Tied House — Juicy burgers, salads, sandwiches, top notch garlic pesto fries, and any variety of bar food. They also have wild game meat (elk, buffalo, ostrich)! If you happen to come on a Thursday, they have a great deal where you can get $1 half pints of their beer. Pretty darn good beer!
